How do I know?

The only way to know for certain whether you have hepatitis C is to get tested. If you have any reason to suspect that you might be at risk of hepatitis C then you should get tested – generally, it is easy.

If you think you are at risk, you must consult your doctor as soon as possible to ask for a blood test. The doctor can then arrange the necessary tests and give you any other information that you need.

Avoiding a test means you could be denying yourself access to the appropriate medical management and advice to slow or stop potential damage to your liver. Also, you may be putting your friends, family and colleagues at risk. If you feel you are at risk for hepatitis C it is wise to take precautions to protect others as if you were already confirmed as being infected with hepatitis C, until you have taken the test and been told otherwise.
